  • This ring stands as a pedestal for the unconventional materials used in Mexican craftsmanship. Reviving the use of volcanic rock from the Popocatépetl, a volcano in México City, rosewood from the state of Guerrero, abalone shell from the coasts of Baja California, and mahogany obsidian from Querétaro. It honors the utilization of volcanic rock, a revered resource among Mesoamerican cultures like the Maya, Olmec, and Aztec, used to construct pyramids, sculptures, and ceremonial artifacts. It pays tribute to the use of rosewood, utilized by skilled silversmiths from Taxco during the 20s-70s and their integration into jewelry and objects d'art. It recuperates the use of shell, common in ancient Mexican cultures, encompassing practical and symbolic purposes, from art and adornment to religion and trade. And serves as a foundation to admire the unique patterns of obsidian, prized for its sharpness and cutting ability, used to create blades, knives, and arrowheads.
