A necklace inspired by the small cascabeles, or bells, found in Chiapas, Yucatán, and Michoacán, among other Mexican regions. These bell shaped forms, once crafted in copper and gold, were used across Mesoamerica as ornaments and ritual objects. They gave sound to the wearer’s movements, hanging in rows on necklaces or attached to arm and leg bands for ceremonial dances. This piece echoes their proportions and rhythmic movement, an interpretation of the ancient cascabeles made by Mixtec goldsmiths.
